PLAN A: Wavves, Christmas Island, The Dabbers, Bipolar Bear @ The Casbah. San Diego phenomenon Nathan Williams (Wavves) is back in town after a two-and-a-half month international tour—and playing his first-ever show at the city’s best indie-rock venue. Come out and give the guy a proper homecoming. PLAN B: Calexico, Bartenders Bible @ Belly Up Tavern. Calexico has forged an impeccable discography in their 13-year run, during which they’ve become one of the most authentic, diverse roots acts around. That twang could only have come from Tucson. BACKUP PLAN: The Vibrators, Northern Towns @ Radio Room. –Todd Kroviak

And be sure to read Jim Ruland’s great piece on Northern Towns in this week’s issue.

Quick Picks:

Uh, I hear there’s some festival out in the desert this weekend. If you’re going, here’s our picks for bands you should check out. If you’re going because you’re dying to see The Killers and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, then our list probably doesn’t apply to you.

Di Nigunim, Underscore Orchestra, The Yiffs @ Soda Bar

River City, The Exfriends, DJs The Brothers Grimm  @ Whistle Stop

Feel The Noise @ U-31

Pau Hana @ Ruby Room
