San Diego Shows–Monday, June 15

June 15, 2009 - 11:13 am

PLAN A: Ty Segall, Pant Hoots @ Bar Pink–Garage rock. San Diego just can’t get enough of the stuff. So when a 21-year-old phenom like Ty Segall comes to town, you can bet audiences will eat it up like a plate of rolled tacos fresh outta the fryer. Segall’s forthcoming full-length, Lemons, is packed with the sort of raw excitement that could only come from someone not old enough to be jaded about what he does, and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t benefit both the artist and the listener. The album smokes, and from the YouTube clips I’ve seen, so do his live shows. Segall performs with local redneck rocker Pant Hoots. –Todd Kroviak PLAN B: Sunday Times, Northern Towns, Los Sweepers @ The Casbah–Buzz band alert! If you’re into Apes of Wrath and Soft Pack and desperately miss The Prayers, then Sunday Times are your new favorite local band. Clever post-punk that sounds like a cross between Dead Milkmen and The Jam. And, local hardcore cats Northern Towns (check out Jim Ruland’s great piece on the band here) are certainly worthy of showing up early.

Quick Picks (in order of wish-it-was-Sundayness):

“Industrie de Lundi” @ Soda Bar

The China Clippers @ Ruby Room

“Dub Dynamite” wih DJ Rashi, Eddie Turbo @ The Office

Lady Dottie & The Diamonds @ U-31

Blue King Brown, DJ Emmanuel @ Belly Up Taverm
