San Diego Shows–Thursday, June 18

June 18, 2009 - 11:11 am

PLAN A: No Knife, The Focus Group, The John Foothills Band @ Belly Up–The more things change, the more they stay the same. Case in point: the resurgence of San Diego heroes No Knife, whose return to the stage after six years apart resulted in rapturous acclaim by the local indie-rock faithful. Unfortunately, the band is retreating just as suddenly as it reemerged, and this show is purported to be No Knife’s last. Ever. So if you want the chance to witness the majesty of “Academy Flight Song” and the brilliant, stuttering “Angel Bomb” firsthand, get your ass over to Belly Up Tavern. Openers The Focus Group and The John Foothills Band satiate listeners beforehand. –Todd Kroviak  PLAN B: The Farmers @ The Casbah–The local roots-rockers hold a CD-release show for Fulmination. The band is an offshoot of the legendary Beat Farmers and features members of that band, The Penetrators and The Jacks. PLAN C: “Nite Vision” with DJs Gabe Vega, Adam Salter @ Voyeur–Now that North Park is turning into P.B. (did you see all the cop cars in front of True North on Sunday night?), the hipster invasion of Downtown continues. DJs Gabe Vega and Adam Salter are breaking Voyeur’s cherry, and while we’re not sure what the theme implies, it apparently involves not that many lights. Bring your flashlight?

Quick Picks (in-order-of-Thursday-is-the-new Thursdayness):

Manuok, By Sunlight, Bright Light Fever @ Bar Pink

Cash’d Out @ San Diego County Fair

W.P.A. (Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek and Glen Phillips of Toad The Wet Sprocket) @ Anthology

The Cutaways, Action Andy @ Tin Can Ale House

Expressway To Yr Skull @ Soda Bar

Ghettotron @ Kava Lounge

Vinyl Film, Revolution 89, The Fascination @ Beauty Bar

DJ Artistic & Cros1 @ U-31

Circle Jerks, The Briggs, Channel 3, Authentic Sellout @ House of Blues–Used to be a time where bands like Bad Brains and Circle Jerks would never play a soulless, corporate venue like the House of Blues, but the mighty dollar prevails.

Ringo Jones, Welcome To Nothing, I Am The Heart Attack @ Dreamstreet–My brother is in Welcome to Nothing. They kinda suck, but they’re getting better.
