San Diego Shows–Sunday, Dec. 20

December 20, 2009 - 7:17 am

PLAN A: The Boys, Crazy Squeeze @ Radio Room. Called “The Beatles of punk,” The Boys were part of the U.K.’s first wave of ’70s punk bands. They had a record deal before The Sex Pistols, and Joe Strummer was reportedly influenced by their first show. The fact that they’re playing Radio Room more than 30 years after they formed is as punk as it gets. Disclaimer: I talked to someone over a week ago at the Radio Room and she said she was “sure” that it was The Boys playing and not just Boys member Honest John Plain who is currently on tour. However, it seems likely that it will just be Honest John playing but if, for some reason, the rest of the band is playing that would surely be something. Anyway, fair warning.  PLAN B: Red Pony Clock, Lazer Zeppelin, The Endless Bummer, Miss Erika Davies @ Tin Can Ale House. Mariachi-influenced pop, a local jazz chanteuse, hilarious anti-folk and cracked-out lo-fi country (featuring members of kick-ass Olympia band LAKE) all in one night! So much for that whole day-of-rest thing. BACKUP PLAN: Crystal Antlers, Audacity @ Someone’s house(?). Seriously, it’s at 4237 Kansas St.

Live Comedy Live @ Ken Club. This new monthly stand-up show is called Live Comedy Live. It’s funny because it’s redundant. You could also read it as something you would say after you defibrillated comedy: “Live, comedy, live!” That’s twice as funny, because cardiac arrest is comedy gold. Now, the difference between comedy gold and real gold is that real gold holds its value. (Wah-wah.) Seriously, folks, the show is cheaper than Chiclets: $5 at the door, $3 if you reserve in advance with an e-mail to The first of the series stars Erik Knowles (a Marine-turned-Sarah Silverman-opener) with six other locals and starts at 7:30 p.m.

Lady Dottie and the Diamonds, The Styletones @ The Casbah.

Nautical Disaster, Behind The Wagon, Ladyfingers @ Bar Pink.

“Too Many Creeps” feat. DJ Mario Orduno @ Whistle Stop.

Unwritten Law, Buckfast Superbee, Chaser, So Long Davey @ House of Blues.
