San Diego Shows–Tuesday, Dec. 29

December 29, 2009 - 8:00 am

PLAN A: Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Benefit Concert @ Hilton Bayfront. The San Diego Chapter of the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program has assembled a first-rate lineup of local talent to play its First Annual Benefit Concert. Sean and Sara Watkins from Nickel Creek, Get Back Loretta, Gregory Page and Molly Jenson will take the stage to help the program create the infrastructure necessary, community by community, to intervene when folks between 10 and 25 years old are in crisis. Best of all, unlike some other benefits, this one’s affordable—only $12. The all-ages, alcohol-free concert goes from 6 to 10 p.m. PLAN B: Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven @ Belly Up. Practically a yearly tradition at Belly Up, a double-dose of David Lowery (frontman for both bands) could seem excessive. Yet, I hear he transitions well between the goofy, folky punk of Camper Van Beethoven and the über-alterna-rock of Cracker. BACKUP PLAN: Burnett’s Bliss, Miss Erika Davies @ Soda Bar.

OTHER COOL STUFF:

Thieves & Liars, Hyena, Schmaltz @ The Casbah. Hyena is a new electro side-project from Transfer drummer Michael Cooper.

Oh Air Nights, Scales @ Tin Can Ale House.

“Art Blakey Tribute” @ Onyx Room.

John Mayer Trio, Mayer Hawthorne @ Copley Symphony Hall.

Tiki Tuesday feat. Craig Pryor @ Bar Pink.
