San Diego Shows–Tuesday, Feb. 16

February 16, 2010 - 8:54 am

PLAN A: Suzanne Vega @ The Loft at UCSD. What do 2Pac, Leonard Cohen and The Lemonheads all have in common? They all know, like me, that Suzanne Vega’s music is the shit even when you discount hits like “Tom’s Diner” and “Luka.” When she’s not winning Peabody Awards for her American Mavericks radio show, she still produces some fantastic folk-based songs that, sadly, often go ignored by the mainstream music press. PLAN B: Antioquia @ Soda Bar. Bay Area hippies playing a heavily syncopated jam-band mix of reggae, samba and Afro-rock. Really, not as bad as it sounds. BACKUP PLAN: “Strip Karaoke” at “Too Cool For Karaoke” @ Ruby Room. Breast cancer benefit.

OTHER COOL STUFF:

Old Man Markley, Pete Bernhard, The Pine Box Boys @ The Casbah.

The Mashtis, Foreign Film, The Duke Wants Me Dead @ Tin Can Ale House.

Worn in Red, War On Drugs, Youth Envy @ Radio Room.
