San Diego Shows–Wednesday, Feb. 17
PLAN A: Henry Rollins @ Belly Up. OK, so it’s not music, but “spoken word” is hardly accurate. It’s more like ranting, soapboxing and just bitching about life in general (his discourse on dating, below, is pretty much my philosophy on dating). Sometimes I wish Rollins would take that energy and channel it back into music, but his hilarious pontificating is just about as good as anything the Rollins Band ever did. Check out the interview I did with Rollins a few years ago. PLAN B: The Damned, The Creepy Creeps @ The Casbah. Oh, I can hear you in my head now. Seth, how can you have one of the greatest punk bands of all time as Plan B following the Rollins bitchfest? Well, because The Damned is already sold out, silly! So think of it like this: Plan A: Bank. Plan B: craigslist. Plan C: The Damned. Plan D: Rejoice. BACKUP PLAN: Rosie Ledet & The Zydeco Playboys @ Anthology.
OTHER COOL STUFF:
Drawing the Line @ Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center. Expansive San Diego County is an extraordinarily diverse ecosystem, and Jim Peugh of the San Diego County Audubon Society has for many years been working hard to keep it that way. From 7 to 8:30 p.m., Peugh and colleague Mike Matherly will talk about how urban development has impacted local wildlife habitats and how remaining Southern California wildlands can still be protected. The free discussion is called, “Drawing the Line: Conservation and Wildlife in San Diego: Saving Critical Habitats in America’s Most Endangered County.”
Color of Glass, Defeating the Purpose, Eclipse 79, Magnuson @ Soda Bar.
Gilbert Castellanos @ Super El Camino.
Robin Roth, Mindkiller, DJ Aaamnation @ Voyeur.
Shining Galaxies, DJ Aimee Acorn @ Tin Can Ale House.
Sarah Petite, Audrey Ryan @ Bar Pink.
Martian Horses, The Ringo Jones Gang, Kid Theodore @ The Beauty Bar.
Bill Cardinal & The Canyon Band @ Riviera Supper Club.
Medeski Martin & Wood @ House of Blues.
