Ridiculous SD YouTubers of the Week: Diversity

March 5, 2010 - 10:50 am

Holy f’in wow. Just wow. With an f’in. OK, let’s add a goddamn—GODDAMN—there was a lot of blog-worthy video on YouTube from San Diego this week. What’s especially fascinating about this week’s collection is the breadth of cultures and subjects represented.

Josh Huppert San Diego State MFA MT Audition I (Vocal)

Maybe I’m just unfairly stereotyping, but when you’ve got a metrosexual singing show tunes on YouTube, it tends to set off the gaydar. Now, I’m not assuming Mr. Huppert’s orientation, but if this audition tape gets him into SDSU’s theater program, he’ll have an instant crush-base in Hillcrest.

San Diego Hmong Rap

In this video (crank the volume up), these Southeast Asian hoods attempt to lay down rhymes (emphasis “attempt,” they had to record two other takes). One of the dudes appears to be naked.

Loads, loads more. Keep reading…

City of San Diego Blog

This actually has nothing to do with race or culture except that credit problems transcend ethnicity. In this presentation, a debt counselor explains how the city of San Diego’s collections department can royally screw your credit rating. The guy also shows his red-light-running citation. (Clarification: This isn’t from the City of San Diego’s blog, but a blog post about the City of San Diego._

Basic Bar San Diego East Village Pizza

The demographic here is: Fat morons.

Dirty Girl

It’s generally assumed that minority groups rely on public transportation more than the wealthier white class, but this video demonstrates that Latino transit riders know how to get down. Is this why MTS was rated the best in the country?

San Diego with Hamed Part 1

I really have no idea where this guy’s from or why he’s in San Diego, but you can’t help but dig the Middle Eastern soundtrack throughout his visit to San Diego. Here’s Part 2.

Riverdance Kid at San Diego Zoo

And, here’s a tribute to Irish culture, weirdly and randomly performed at the San Diego Zoo. The kid has a nasty fall early in the video.

San Diego sidewalk Scientific Test of Friction Coefficient

A super-cool experiment with shoe friction at various locations downtown that comes to the conclusion that San Diego’s sidewalks may be hazardous to the handicapped.

Downtown San Diego

Drunken rowdiness also spans ethnic lines, this multicultural boozer in the Gaslamp illustrates.

San Diego Barbell Max Effort Squat

For the meathead market: DeathyMcDeath has ton of new videos of extreme weight lifting.

CityBeat’s Mardi Gras adventure

OK, so this week, CityBeat (specifically, our production manager Vince Meehan) is also guilty of posting ridiculousness to YouTube in the form of this video documenting our double-decker bus in the Mardi Gras parade. Note the over-the-top pop music—editorial had nothing to do with this.  Also, keep a close eye out for Seth Combs’ Jack Russell terrier, Harry, flipping out.

Holy freaking crap! That’s awesome. A decade’s worth of striving by CityBeat staffers to instill credibility in this town has been utterly destroyed by one four-minute video.

Great video! It sounds to me like Mr. Decker is Jealous he wasn’t there!

You know what, Jason, it’s true! I am right there with you on the metaphorical double decker bus of the destruction of CityBeat’s credibility.

Maybe it’s supposed to be ironic. Isn’t that what all the cool kids are going for? Being ironic?
