San Diego Shows–Tuesday March 30

March 30, 2010 - 7:06 am

PLAN A: Red Octopus, Kata, Hing, Schmaltz @ The Casbah. Probably what Nigel had in mind when he uttered the words, “This one goes to 11.” If you love epic psych-metal bands like Earthless and Acid Mothers Temple, then the headliners are gonna make your eardrums hurt in the morning. PLAN B: In Motion Trio, Mattson 2 @ Andrews Gallery. Hear the local jazz trio, plus last chance to see Red Rhomboid installation and abstract paintings by Texas-based artist Zack Hawkins. PLAN C: The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt!, The Shakes @ The Loft at UCSD. Finally, a band whose bizarre name is converse with their music. More a theatrical troupe playing cracked-out, DIY vaudeville-pop that sounds like Vince Guaraldi scoring an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force as opposed to Charlie Brown. David Byrne loves them so much he signed them to his label. BACKUP PLAN: “Too Cool For Karaoke” @ Ruby Room.

OTHER COOL STUFF:

“Basic Tuesdays” @ Bar Basic. Thumbprint Gallery presents this new night at East Village pizza joint Bar Basic. There’ll be art, music, and, of course, pizza and beer.

Paper Forest, Skeletal System, Neat Beats @ Tin Can Ale House.

Sexycrimes, The Bertos @ Soda Bar.

Off Track, Sunday Girl, Field Trip @ Radio Room.

“Darkwave Garden” @ Club Kadan.

“Friends Chill” @ Whistle Stop.
