San Diego Shows–Monday, June 21
PLAN A: Da Bears, D/ Wolves, Recordable Colors @ The Casbah. If locals Da Bears really think they’re the “champagne of rock bands,” as they claim on their MySpace page, then they better make sure they’re not upstaged by up-and-coming quintet D/ Wolves. Some of these guys aren’t old enough to buy beer, but their lovely, electro-tinged indie-rock has sophistication beyond their years. PLAN B: Sea of Bees, Metrofique, Aaron Swanton @ Soda Bar. With performances by electro-folk group Sea of Bees and local duo Metrofique, tenderness will surely be the word of the night. BACKUP PLAN: Robin Henkel @ Humphreys Backstage Live.
OTHER COOL STUFF:
International Organ Festival @ Spreckels Organ Pavilion. Organists from around the world will play every Monday until Aug. 30. First up is former San Diego Civic Organist Robert Plimpton. See website for full list of concerts.
Klezmer Summit @ Lyceum Theatre. Hear tango music set to a Jewish beat. Live tango dancers and vocalists complete this concert of “tango with a Yiddish twist.”
Halcyonaire, The Walking, The Blank Tapes, Rubedo @ Tin Can Ale House.
Melly Frances and the Distilled Spirits @ Riviera Supper Club.
“Sailor Jerry Art Nite” @ Ruby Room.
“The Get Down” @ Kadan Club.
Lady Dottie and the Diamonds @ U-31.
The Styletones @ Bar Pink.
Stationary bike races w/ DJ Kalvin @ Waterfront Bar & Grill.
