Scripps hosts entire conference debunking Fiorina

June 21, 2010 - 5:46 pm

OK, so that’s a little bit of a misleading headline, but the fact remains:

– Republican candidate for US Senate Carly Fiorina is attacking Sen. Barbara Boxer because Boxer had the audacity to describe climate change as a national security issue.

– Scripps Institution of Oceanography is hosting an international symposium on national security and climate change.

Here’s Fiorina’s ad:

“Terrorism kills, and Barbara Boxer’s worried about the weather.”

The Pulitzer-prize winning journos at Politifact gave that spot a “Pants on Fire” rating on their lie-o-meter.

Meanwhile, today marked day one of Scripps’ Center for Environment and National Security’s International Symposium, titled: “Climate Change and National Security: Securing Better Forecasts.”

(Because, you know, terrorists kill, but so do famines, droughts, wars over natural resources.  Plus, we’ve got ships that have to navigate, you know, the environment.)

Here’s another YouTube video, this one from Reno Harnish, the center’s director, on why national-security wonks should care about climate change:

Funny. The last week or so has been hot during the day and pretty damn chilly once the sun sets. I thought THAT was climate change. Call me a dork then…
