The new art space at Blind Lady

San Diego artist Joshua Krause will be “helping out” with art shows in Blind Lady Ale House‘s recently expanded lounge area. He’ll kick things off with a show of his work at 8 p.m. Friday, July 9.

The Ice Gallery is back after being an on-again, off-again alternative art space since officially closing its doors in 2005.  Artist Lee Lavy says he recently put on a fresh layer of white paint and we can expect big things out of the small space soon.

“Dreams do come true,” says artist and Planet Rooth gallery owner Gustaf Rooth about his new gallery space in Hillcrest. The gallery currently in renovation mode, but it will be opening soon. Rooth, one of the founders of North Park’s Ray at Night, recently left his longtime neighborhood of North Park because of increasing rent for his gallery and living space on Ray Street.

Remember Chris Trueman’s self-portrait made entirely from dead ants that was recently on view at Alexander Salazar Fine Art? Yeah? Well, according to Salazar, and reported by AOL News, it sold to Ripley’s Believe it or Not and will now be part of their permanent collection of weird art.

After a three-month hiatus, Drew Snyder of The Andrews Gallery has returned and is “getting back in motion.” The gallery will start things off with Processions, a solo show by artist Marka Kiley, from 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 9, during Kettner Nights.

Irina Davidovich

Ceramic artist Irina Davidovich took home first place at this year’s San Diego County Fair’s Exhibition of Fine Art/Ceramics.

Mike Burnett, AIA, was recently awarded the Young Architect of the Year Award by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) San Diego chapter.
