San Diego Shows–Tuesday, July 6

July 6, 2010 - 6:00 am

PLAN A: Femi Kuti, DJ James Barak @ Belly Up. You’ll need your dancing shoes— not to mention your workout clothes and a bottle of Gatorade—for this one. The last time I saw Femi Kuti, son of the late Afrobeat luminary Fela Kuti, he played explosive funk alongside a team of dancers for two-and-a-half hours. (See our feature in this issue.) PLAN B: Ghetto Blaster, Terremoto, Stage Kids @ The Casbah. An experimental hardcore super-group composed of members of Rats Eyes, Hostile Combover and Irradio, Ghetto Blaster throw down angular rock that sounds like the Melvins on meth. BACKUP PLAN: Pianos Become the Teeth, Touché Amoré, The Shroud, Agustos Espias @ Che Café.

OTHER COOL STUFF:

Industry, Raven Like a Writing Desk, My Dead Body @ Soda Bar.

Tomcat Courtney @ La Gran Tapa.

“Too Cool for Karaoke” @ Ruby Room.

Riki Michele & Tom Tormey, Mark Miller, The New Archaic, Phil Bellante & BViolin @ House of Blues.

“Darkwave Garden” w/ DJs Bryan Pollard, Heather Hardcore, Pet M1 @ Kadan Club.

“Tiki Tuesday” w/ Adrian Demain’s Exitcatronica @ Bar Pink.

DJ Bency @ Bluefoot Bar & Lounge.

“Fresh Vibe” w/ Anthology House Band @ Anthology.

“Hype” w/ DJs Heather Hardcore, Adamnation @ Air Conditioned Lounge.
