San Diego Shows–Sunday, July 11

July 11, 2010 - 6:00 am

PLAN A: Golden Triangle @ Bar Pink. You might recognize the Golden Triangle song “Cinco de Mayo,” a hard-driving slab of garage-rock with “ooh” and “aah” vocals, from a recent BMW commercial. Like Vivian Girls and Dum Dum Girls, this Brooklyn sextet’s retro rock has reverb-y guitars and girl-group harmonies. PLAN B: Violent Affair, Dirty Mugs, San Deviants, Back Alley Hooligans @ Radio Room. Radio Room is being sold to the owner of Hamilton’s Tavern and he doesn’t plan to continue booking tons of punk bands, so this might be one of your last chances to see some gnarly dudes in Mohawks scream “Fuck racism!” at this dive. BACK- UP PLAN: Bad Astronaut, Joey Cape, Mike Hale @ The Casbah.

OTHER COOL STUFF:

Rafter, Addiquit, Inspired Flight, Paulo Zappoli, Parker & the Numberman, Jamuel Saxon @ Beauty Bar. They postponed this show after we went to print. Otherwise it would’ve definitely been at least a Backup Plan. Great local acts. Check it out.

Staring at the Sun CD release party @ Lestat’s. If you missed the CD release show at The Casbah a little while back–or if you’re under 21–then check out this all-ages version, celebrating Blindspot Records’ 8th Staring at the Sun local-music compilation.

“I tried calling you, but it was busy…” (art show) @ El Dorado.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” rap open mic @ Kadan Club.

Orquesta Primo @ Belly Up.

Sing or Die Karaoke @ 710 Beach Club.

“Klub Isolation” w/ DJs Bryan Pollard, AmBones @ Ruby Room.

Karaoke w/ Daryl Johnson @ Soda Bar.

“Too Many Creeps” w/ Mario Orduno and friends @ Whistle Stop.

Earl Thomas & the Kings of Rhythm, “O.B.-o-ke karaoke” w/ José Sinatra @ Winston’s.
