San Diego Shows–Friday, July 16

July 16, 2010 - 10:56 am

PLAN A: Traffique, Knorphus Zortorch @ Tin Can Ale House. Traffique is the new project of Red Hunter from the wistful indie-pop group Peter and the Wolf. For this onetime-only performance, Red will be joined by an eight-piece band for what they’re promising will be a sweaty dance party. I have no idea what to expect from bizarrely named opener Knorphus Zortorch, but I’m intrigued. PLAN B: Dirty Sweet, Family Wagon, The Tender Box @ The Casbah. If you’re down for some good old-fashioned rock, be sure to check out this show, which marks the release of Dirty Sweet’s new record, American Spiritual. PLAN C: Get Back Loretta, Wirepony @ Bar Pink. With years of experience packing local clubs with their awesome pop-rock, Get Back Loretta are still going strong. BACKUP PLAN: Vicente Fernández @ Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre.

OTHER COOL STUFF:

Nobody, Inspired Flight, Griefshare, Existence 76 @ Kava Lounge. Hailing from the “beat scene” that’s producing face-melting producers like Schlomo and Baths (oh yeah, and Flying Lotus), Nobody makes funky tunes with crazy Auto-tune vocals. I saw locals Inspired Flight play to a crowd of approx. 10 at Beauty Bar last week and they killed me softly with their mellow trip-hop–so imagine what they can do in a cavernous nightclub. Too bad the club’s owners failed to post the full bill on their website in time, because I probably would’ve made this a Plan if I’d known Nobody was performing.

Primitive Noyes, Like a Villan, Fabi, Kusikia, Clint Niosi, Good Night & Good Morning, Bruisilians @ The Treehouse (3380 C St.). This will be a house show like no other, featuring some great bands from Portland, Forth Worth, and Chicago, plus the excellent local trio Primitive Noyes. Stay late for a bruising dance party put on by a band that includes a certain CityBeat staffer on vocals/drum machine/synth.

Onlife fundraiser w/ DJ All Good (7 p.m.), DJ Artistic @ El Dorado. Onlife seeks to prevent suicide through social networking, a curious venture indeed. Dance and be merry for a good cause.

John Meeks @ Riviera Supper Club. John Meeks writes beautifully melancholy country tunes.

FeverCrotch @ Blarney Stone Pub. I’ve been noticing these guys playing around a lot lately. I wouldn’t know what to expect from a band with such a priceless name…

Cedar Fire, Black Bone Child, Of Sons and Ghosts @ Soda Bar.

Syndicate, Danger Maker, The Actors, The Moviegoers @ Ken Club.

WITT, Snuffaluffagus, We Be the Echo, Fever Sleeves @ Che Cafe.

Gilbert Castellanos, Daniel Jackson & Mark Dresser @ Dizzy’s.

“Feel the Noise” w/ DJ Gabe Vega @ U-31.

Donald Glaude, Chris DeVoy, Scott Saunders @ Voyeur.

Fire Eaters @ Whistle Stop.

Thrice, Kevin Devine, Bad Veins, The Dig @ House of Blues.

Roxy Monoxide, Jason Mann, Vain Transfer, FMera, SM58 @ Dream Street.

Knights of Monte Carlo, Coconut Pete @ Belly Up.

Dwele, Meiko @ Anthology.

Lessons from Zeke, For Days, Roswell That Ends Well, Eclipse 79 @ Beauty Bar.

Dark Lay Still, Open Wound, Vysim @ Brick by Brick.

Origin, Gigan, Dead Serial, Downspell, Greenskull, Lord of War, Imbalanced @ Ramona Mainstage.

Devastating Karate @ Hensley’s Flying Elephant.
