San Diego “Intactivist” publishes anti-circumcision comic book
For several years, local anti-circumcision activist (or “Intactivist”) Matthew Hess has used a character he created, “Foreskin Man,” to promote a piece of legislation that would ban the circumcision of newborn boys . At conferences and media events, Hess has handed out posters featuring the character and his sidekick “Intactibabe,” who use tools like the “Gomco clamp vaporizer” and “OB/GYN neutralizer” to combat the villainous Dr Mutilator and Monster Mohel.
For Comic-Con, Hess has taken his vision a step further and is now promoting his Male Genital Mutilation Bill with a full, 12-page comic book drawn by Brazilian artist Gledson Barreto. It’s a bit heavy-handed, but, err….well, we are talking about procedure that involves a scalpel and a pee-pee. (Read our cover story on the operation from January.)
We wrote in depth about the local debate over circumcision back in January.
