Locals Only – bonus news!
Jamuel Saxon and Bedford Grove will perform at a charity tonight at Downtown’s Analog Bar for the Surfing Nosara Foundation in Nosara, Costa Rica, and the Trinity Dental Clinic in Monrovia, Liberia. Singer-songwriter Greg Gibson, who’s organizing the event on behalf of Safari Surf School, a Costa Rica surf school he works for, says that proceeds will go towards finishing construction on a school lunchroom in Nosara and purchasing a vital signs monitor at the dental clinic in Monrovia, which would make life-saving dental surgeries safer. In addition to live performances, arts nonprofit Sezio will be silk-screening custom t-shirts and there’ll be items up for auction/raffle, including two tickets to Costa Rica.
Post-punks Nude Boy will celebrate the release of their new 7-inch at Tower Bar on Friday, Aug. 27. Neon Dick, a catchy band that takes cues from the likes of Gang of Four and Public Image Ltd., will open.
Escondido punk rockers The Getdown will herald the release of their debut EP at Ruby Room on Wednesday, Aug. 25. The Bombpops, Roadside Affair and Banker’s Hill will open.
Last, but not least: Mikey, host of FM 94/9‘s The Mikey Show, is heading this fall to Port-de-Paix, a city in north Haiti, with Outside the Bowl, a local nonprofit that’s built aid kitchens in South Africa and Port-de-Paix. Mikey will be working with a team to document the lives of malnourished children in the area. They plan to make a film, or possibly more than one, that’ll raise awareness about mass malnourishment.
