Life Walk uses county logo anyway

November 16, 2010 - 2:25 pm

Nothing changes with Bill Horn

Even though San Diego County canceled a grant to an organization that produces fundamental Christian educational materials, the group continued to use the county’s logo on its promotional materials.

This summer, San Diego CityBeat published investigative reports showing that County Supervisor Bill Horn had channeled more than $60,000 to La Mesa-based Life Perspectives over the last two years and tried to give them another $20,000 in 2010. The money would’ve funded the group’s annual Life Walk fundraiser, which pays for Scripture-based pro-life and abstinence-only educational materials for K-12 students.

Before the check was even cut, the group had begun promoting Horn by name on its materials as it had done in years past. In fact, that was part of “corporate partnership” deal it offered when it sent a letter to Horn’s office requesting the funding. The difference this year is that kind of promotion was barred under new county policies.

Despite that rule and the fact that the check never went through, here’s Horn’s name and the county seal on the back of the official Life Walk 2010 T-shirt: Copyrighted image link.

P.S. If you walked in the Life Walk or you’re the Chick-fil-A cow, you can buy a picture of yourself crossing the finish line for the low, low price of $19.95! Here’s the gallery.
