Frye praises the lord that she’s not on par with Hueso

Hueso is no Frye

Outgoing San Diego City Council President Ben Hueso was off the friggin’ hook yesterday in an interview with Voice of San Diego’s Liam Dillon, who had recently reported on some questionable hires in Hueso’s last days in office. Hueso seems to be rewarding campaign staff who worked on his successful Assembly bid as well as his brother Felipe Hueso’s failed attempt to fill the District 8 vacancy. City Council member Donna Frye was not amused:

“The work of a council member is to serve the public. You don’t serve the public by spending all the budget before the next councilmember gets there.”

Hueso blasted right back:

“Donna has never in 10 years here promoted a project, ever. Nothing has ever come from her office. She waits for things to be put before her on the council and she comments on them. You can’t compare me with Donna. “

Frye declined to react when Dillon passed on Hueso’s insult, but CityBeat editor Dave Rolland tried again during a sit-down with Frye today.

“I know a whole lot of people want me to respond, but, you know, it’s like, none needed,” she said.

Rolland persisted, reminding her what it was Hueso said. She started laughing.

“It’s too silly,” she said.

Rolland paraphrased Hueso’s remark about how you can’t compare him to Frye, who is also leaving office.

“Thank god,” she said and let out a big laugh.

“I know a whole lot of people want me to respond, but, you know, it’s like, none needed.”

Then I pushed her by reminding her what was in the quote, and she started laughing.

“It’s too silly,” she said.

Then I said, paraphrasing Hueso, “You can’t compare me with Donna.”

Then she said, “Thank god,” and let out a big laugh.
